Our client approached Kimble Roden following the purchase of a large, detached Arts and Crafts style property in the village of Prestbury, Cheshire. Located on a quiet road with large gardens to the front and rear, she wanted to create a forever home for her family that was functional and beautiful, and suitable for modern living but that enhanced the property's charm.
The existing house was in need of updating and had been extended previously without thought for circulation or function.
Our brief was to create an open plan kitchen/ living space with separate sitting spaces, a playroom and optimum utility space at ground floor with four double bedrooms, all ensuite, across the first and second floors.
Access to the garden with play spaces and a gym was key to the success of the scheme, as was utilising the loft floor to maximise long views across the rear garden and the Cheshire landscape beyond. At ground floor we opened up the entrance hall to the rear and inserted a stunning oak and black metal bespoke staircase which connects all floors and leads to an open and dramatic top landing.
The two-storey side extension reflects the art and crafts style at the front of the dwelling whilst to the rear a more contemporary approach has been taken which enabled us to maximise the window openings and connection with the landscape.
The interiors used a palette of warm neutrals, oak details and black doors and joinery (both Crittall style and panelled) with dark bronze detailing throughout. The result is a harmonious flow of materials, but each room has been designed to reflect the change in function and scale appropriate for its use.
This whole house transformation has resulted in a stunning family home that exudes character and functionality.
